Senate Resolution No. 1737

        HONORING  Kevin  Scully  upon  the occasion of his
        designation  as  recipient  of  the  Arts  Education
        Leadership   Award  by  HEARTS  Port  Washington  on
        February 9, 2024
 
  WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies  and  serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
 
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Kevin Scully
upon  the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Arts Education
Leadership Award by HEARTS Port Washington,  to  be  recognized  at  its
Annual  Red  Party  on  Friday, February 9, 2024, at the Polish American
Hall in Port Washington, New York; and
 
  WHEREAS, A proud  Port  Washington  resident,  Kevin  Scully  is  an
educator,  trumpet  player, conductor, and the Director of Creative Arts
for the Port Washington School District and is  currently  President  of
the   Nassau   County   chapter   of  the  New  York  State  Council  of
Administrators of Music Education (NYSCAME); and
 
  WHEREAS, Previously, Kevin Scully taught band and  served  as  music
department  chairperson  in the East Meadow School District and has also
been a band director at The  American  School  in  London,  the  Fairfax
County  Public Schools (VA), and in the Pine Bush School District in the
Hudson Valley; and
 
  WHEREAS, Kevin Scully  received  a  Bachelor  of  Music  degree  and
Performer's  Certificate from the Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam, a
Master of Music degree from Southern  Methodist  University  in  Dallas,
Texas,  and  two  advanced certificates in Educational Administration at
Hunter College (CUNY); and
 
  WHEREAS,  A  well-versed  and  experienced  educator,  Kevin  Scully
completed  a  doctoral fellowship with the music education department at
The  Hartt  School,  University  of  Hartford,  where  he  taught  brass
techniques,  woodwind techniques, and conducting, as well as supervising
student teachers; passionate about his  craft,  he  served  as  a  guest
conductor  for honor ensembles in Montgomery, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk,
and Westchester Counties, as well as at the Eastern US Music Camp; and
 
  WHEREAS, As  a  testament  to  his  pure  talent  and  drive  to  be
exceptional,  Kevin  Scully  is a regular contributor of brass recording
reviews for the International Trumpet Guild  Journal;  as  a  member  of
ensembles  and  as  a  recitalist,  his performance venues have included
Dallas' Meyerson Symphony Center, New  York's  Lincoln  Center,  and  in
London at St. John's Smith Square, The American Church in London and the
Chelsea Arts Club; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Making  his  debut  on public radio, Kevin Scully has been
heard on Spanish World Radio and BBC Radio 3; and
 
  WHEREAS, With him throughout has been his wife, Marcie, and his  two
daughters,  Raina  and Marisyn, all of whom have felt privileged to be a
part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
 
  WHEREAS,  HEARTS  (Helping Enrich the Arts of Port Washington) is an
independent, grassroots not-for-profit  501(c)3  community  organization
whose  mission  is  to  add meaningful value to children's lives and our
community by supporting,  promoting  and  enriching  the  arts  in  Port
Washington and its public schools; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Throughout  the  entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Kevin Scully has stood  constant  in
dignity, good grace, and humor; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Rare  indeed  is  the  impressive  dedication  shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Kevin  Scully  has  displayed
throughout his life; and
 
  WHEREAS,  It  has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to  honor  and  support  those  individuals  who  have  displayed  their
commitment  to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this  tribute  to
Kevin  Scully,  that  future  generations  may  know  and appreciate his
admirable character, his many benevolent  deeds,  and  the  respect  and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kevin Scully upon the occasion of his designation as recipient  of
the  Arts  Education  Leadership  Award  by  HEARTS  Port  Washington on
February 9, 2024; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to Kevin Scully.
