Senate Resolution No. 2160

        COMMENDING  Susan Johnson upon the occasion of her
        designation for special recognition by  In  Our  Own
        Voices, Inc. on July 21, 2019
 
  WHEREAS,  This  Legislative  Body  recognizes the profound impact of
those exemplary individuals within the  great  State  of  New  York  who
proactively  work  for  the enfranchisement of minority communities, and
the importance of such work for the benefit  of  all  citizens  of  this
State, and indeed, all citizens of the Nation; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to
commend  Susan  Johnson upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by In Our Own Voices, Inc., to be celebrated at its Jazz  in
July  Event commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising
on Sunday, July 21, 2019, at Rivers Casino & Resort in Schenectady,  New
York; and
 
  WHEREAS,  In  Our Own Voices is an autonomous organization dedicated
to  addressing  the  many  needs  and  ensuring  the  physical,  mental,
spiritual,  political, cultural, and economic survival and growth of the
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual  and  Transgender  People  of  Color  (LGBT  POC)
community in the Capital Region of Upstate New York; and
 
  WHEREAS,  In Our Own Voices is proudly recognizing Susan Johnson for
her tireless efforts  in  creating  positive  change  in  Lesbian,  Gay,
Bisexual and Transgender People of Color communities; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Susan  Johnson  has  actively been involved in the HIV and
LGBTQ community for over 11 years; she helped found, and currently works
as a PrEP Specialist in the Community Treatment and Prevention  Services
Department  at  the  Whitney  M. Young, Jr. Health Center in Albany, New
York, which provides access to  consistent  quality  healthcare  without
regard to income; and
 
  WHEREAS, In addition this role, Susan Johnson serves as the co-Chair
for the Capital District Ending the Epidemic PrEP sub-committee; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Our society is greatly benefited by the purposeful efforts
of individuals who unite for the cause of improving the quality of  life
for others, and who proactively work toward the goal of dignity for all;
now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Susan Johnson upon the occasion of her designation  for  special
recognition  by  In  Our  Own  Voices,  Inc. on July 21, 2019; and be it
further
 
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to Susan Johnson.
