Senate Resolution No. 2226

BY: Senator BRESLIN

HONORING 4th Family upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of the Organization Award
by the Albany Fund for Education on October 25, 2019

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
4th Family upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of the
Organization Award by the Albany Fund for Education, to be celebrated at
its 22nd Annual Gala on Friday, October 25, 2019, at Renaissance Albany
Hotel in Albany, New York; and

WHEREAS, The Albany Fund for Education (AFE) strives to enhance
opportunities for students to learn, grow, and succeed by building
community partnerships, raising funds, and investing in innovative and
effective programs and projects that build equity and strengthen the
educational infrastructure of the City School District of Albany; and

WHEREAS, 4th Family is receiving this prestigious award for its
steadfast and unremitting commitment to its community; and

WHEREAS, The name 4th Family is based on an African proverb which
described the ties that bound communities together; the first family is
the nuclear family, the second family is the immediate extended family,
the third family is extended family, and the 4th Family is the community
which provides a support network to all of its members; and

WHEREAS, Leveraging a love of sports to switch on the overlooked
aptitude of at-risk youth, 4th Family designs and delivers empowerment:
positive, authentically science-based programs in its home town of
Albany, and beyond; and

WHEREAS, Through afterschool and mentoring programs, 4th Family has
worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for youth to recognize their
potential and to embrace skills they may not be aware of; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor 4th Family upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of
the Organization Award by the Albany Fund for Education on October 25,
2019; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to 4th Family.
