CONGRATULATING Taylor Farrell upon the occasion of
winning the NYSPHSAA 1500-meter Race Walk on March
3, 2024
WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after
in high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic
achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both the moral and
physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
Taylor Farrell upon the occasion of winning the NYSPHSAA 1500-meter Race
Walk on Sunday, March 3, 2024; to the praise and applause of her excited
fans, the Corning-Painted Post Hawk outraced her opponents with a time
of 6:40.09 - 13 seconds faster than all other competitors; and
WHEREAS, Taylor Farrell, always striving for excellence, is also the
New Balance Indoor National Champion in the 1 Mile Race Walk with a time
of 7:05.14, which set an impressive new meet record; this meet was held
on Friday, March 8, 2024, at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston,
Massachusetts; and
WHEREAS, Proudly donning her school's colors, family, friends, and
the community at large loyally and enthusiastically supported Taylor
Farrell throughout her athletic journey as she ended her season with a
list of astounding accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, The time for Taylor Farrell was the 12th fastest time by a
high school athlete in U.S. history in the 1500-meter race walk, the
ninth fastest time in New York State history, and she is ranked fifth in
the last 20 years, truly trailblazing the sport with her extensive
accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Taylor Farrell plans on attending Suffolk University in
Boston in the fall, where she will major in biology and continue
competing on the track and field team; and
WHEREAS, In a sport such as race walking which demands athletic
prowess, speed, and agility, Head Coach Ray Lawson worked hard to hone
the skills of this champion, teaching this outstanding athlete lessons
which will prove invaluable both on and off the track; and
WHEREAS, Coach Ray Lawson and State Champion Taylor Farrell have
clearly utilized dedication, determination, and passion in providing a
lasting contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of
their school; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate State Champion Taylor Farrell upon the occasion of winning
the NYSPHSAA 1500-meter Race Walk on March 3, 2024; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Taylor Farrell and Coach Ray Lawson.
