Senate Resolution No. 2536

        CONGRATULATING  David  Bailey upon the occasion of
        his retirement after 34 years of  dedicated  service
        to Hamilton College
 
  WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of
and   publicly  acknowledge  individuals  of  remarkable  integrity  and
character whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in this
great State; and
 
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate David
Bailey upon the occasion of his retirement after 34 years  of  dedicated
service to Hamilton College; and
 
  WHEREAS,  A  resident  of  Clinton, New York, David Bailey began his
illustrious career with Hamilton College in 1990; and
 
  WHEREAS, As  Winslow  Chair  of  Modern  Science  and  Professor  of
Geosciences,  David  Bailey's research focuses on the history of igneous
and tectonic activity in the  northeastern  United  States  and  on  the
mineralogy of New York State; and
 
  WHEREAS,  David Bailey is a recipient of National Science Foundation
ILI and CCLI grants and is a research associate of the  New  York  State
Museum;   he  has  written  numerous  peer-reviewed  papers,  conference
abstracts and field trip guides; and
 
  WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure,  David  Bailey  has  taught  several
courses,  including  Principles  of Geosciences: Earth Resources and the
Environment,  Mineralogy,  Origins  of  Natural   Systems,   Igneous   &
Metamorphic Petrology, and Volcanology; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Furthermore, active within Hamilton College, this esteemed
professor has given tirelessly of  his  time  and  energies  as:  Chair,
Geosciences  Department,  2015;  Mentor,  Miami Posse 1, 2010-14; Acting
chair, Geosciences Department,  2009-10,  2013;  Committee  on  Academic
Standing,  2008-11;  Chair,  Harassment  and Sexual Misconduct Grievance
Board, 2006-07; Chair, Committee on Academic Policy, 2005-06; Harassment
and Sexual Misconduct Grievance Board, 2004-06;  Committee  on  Academic
Policy, 2003-05; Co-chair; Geoarchaeology Program, 2001-present; Science
Building  Planning Committee, 1996-2005; and Radiation Safety Committee,
1993-present; and
 
  WHEREAS,  With  a  steadfast  and  unwavering  commitment   to   his
profession,  David  Bailey  is a member of the New York State Academy of
Mineralogy, New York State Geological Association, Mineralogical Society
of America, and the Geological Society of America, as well as a research
associate of the New York State Museum; and
 
  WHEREAS, David Bailey earned his  doctorate  from  Washington  State
University; his dissertation focused on geochemistry and petrogenesis of
Miocene  volcanic  rocks  in  the Powder River Volcanic Field, northeast
Oregon; and
 
  WHEREAS, A caring, competent, and committed leader,  David  Bailey's
character  and  integrity  are  the hallmarks of his life and work as an
educational leader, a community volunteer and as a person; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The  residents  of Clinton, New York, are indeed fortunate
and blessed to have had  such  a  dedicated  and  respected  educational
leader; his wisdom and contributions to Hamilton College have truly made
a  difference in the lives of those fortunate enough to have worked with
him; and
 
  WHEREAS, A significant contributor to education in the State of  New
York,   David   Bailey   has   continually  demonstrated  an  impressive
dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting  enthusiasm  for
the  quality  of  the educational programs and opportunities offered for
the benefit of its faculty and students,  as  well  as  for  the  entire
community; and
 
  WHEREAS,  In completing his service, David Bailey leaves behind more
than mere bricks and mortar; he leaves behind a legacy to  the  students
of  Hamilton  College  and  to  the  residents of Central New York; now,
therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
congratulate  David  Bailey upon the occasion of his retirement after 34
years of  dedicated  service  to  Hamilton  College,  and  to  wish  him
continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to David Bailey.
