Assembly Resolution No. 620

        MEMORIALIZING Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim
        June   27,   2019,   as   Normalizing  Breastfeeding
        Awareness Day in the State of New York
 
  WHEREAS, International Day to Normalize Breastfeeding was  initiated
by  Vanessa  A.  Simmons  to help normalize breastfeeding and remove the
taboo of public breastfeeding from modern society; and
 
  WHEREAS, Themed Take the Pledge in Neutralizing Breastfeeding,  this
initiative  encourages breast feeders to take simple steps for a longer,
healthier, happier breastfeeding relationship with their  baby,  toddler
or child; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Breastfeeding  families  often  lack  education about what
normal breastfeeding looks like and forget that as  long  as  the  baby,
toddler  or  child  is  recovering  breast milk then that are officially
breastfeeding; and
 
  WHEREAS, It is important to remind families  that  the  benefits  of
breastfeeding  extend  to  the  entire family with the necessary support
from   professionals,   practitioners,   businesses,   communities   and
organizational groups; and
 
  WHEREAS, The Normalize Breastfeeding campaign documents and provides
education  that  supports  variations  of  normal  breastfeeding  across
cultures and methods of delivery of breast  milk  through  its  website,
NormalizeBreastfeeding.org; and
 
  WHEREAS,  On  International Day to Normalize Breastfeeding, families
will pledge to nurse or pump whenever necessary to nourish  their  baby,
toddler  or  child  with breast milk as often as possible until they are
ready to stop; and
 
  WHEREAS,  On   International   Day   to   Normalize   Breastfeeding,
communities,  businesses,  health  organizations  and  other groups will
pledge to support breastfeeding  families  to  nurse  or  pump  whenever
necessary  and  to nourish their baby, toddler or child with breast milk
as often as possible until they are ready to stop; and
 
  WHEREAS, This day should serve  as  an  opportunity  for  a  greater
understanding  of  the  importance  of  accessibility  to  nurse or pump
whenever necessary and to nourish their baby,  toddler,  or  child  with
breast  milk  as  often  as  possible until they are ready to stop; now,
therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
memorialize  Governor M. Cuomo to proclaim June 27, 2019, as Normalizing
Breastfeeding Awareness Day in the State of New York; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted  to  The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of
New York.
