        Introduced  by  Sens.  MAYER,  BROOKS,  CARLUCCI, JACKSON, MYRIE -- read
          twice and ordered printed, and when printed to  be  committed  to  the

        AN ACT to require the department of environmental conservation to report
          on coyote management techniques in urban and suburban areas
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1.   The department of environmental  conservation  shall,  no
     2  later  than January 1, 2022, prepare a report to the legislature regard-
     3  ing coyote management techniques in urban  and  suburban  areas  of  the
     4  state. Such report, which shall be based on the best available scientif-
     5  ic information, shall include:
     6    (i)  management measures currently taken by the department to minimize
     7  conflict between humans and coyotes;
     8    (ii) review of effective management  measures  being  taken  in  other
     9  states;
    10    (iii)  methods to enhance public engagement in and awareness of coyote
    11  management issues;
    12    (iv) identification and evaluation of urban and suburban areas of  the
    13  state with high concentrations of coyote populations;
    14    (v)  methods  currently implemented to minimize dangerous interactions
    15  between humans and coyotes and recommendations for improvements to  such
    16  methods, if applicable;

     1    (vi)  the basis for the department's current coyote population manage-
     2  ment levels; and
     3    (vii)  an evaluation of coyote control methods that may be employed to
     4  reduce coyote populations other  than  traditional  hunting,  which  may
     5  include,  but  need not be limited to capture and removal, and fertility
     6  control.
     7    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
