AN ACT to amend the multiple dwelling law, in relation to requiring
exterior cages for air conditioners
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The multiple dwelling law is amended by adding a new
2 section 62-a to read as follows:
3 § 62-a. Air conditioners. Any air conditioner installed in a multiple
4 dwelling shall be protected by an exterior cage. For purposes of this
5 section, air conditioners (1) that are installed inside and wholly with-
6 in a dwelling unit or (2) are already protected by an exterior wall
7 sleeve mounted to the window, shall not require exterior cages pursuant
8 to this section.
9 § 2. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall
10 have become a law.
