        Introduced  by  Sen.  THOMAS -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Rules
 
        AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to permitting  pharmacies
          to employ unlicensed assistants
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Paragraph a of subdivision 1 of section 6807 of the  educa-
     2  tion  law, as amended by chapter 881 of the laws of 1972 and such subdi-
     3  vision as designated by chapter 18 of the laws of 1990,  is  amended  to
     4  read as follows:
     5    a.  Unlicensed  assistants  from being employed in licensed pharmacies
     6  for purposes other than the practice of  pharmacy.  Notwithstanding  any
     7  other  provision  of  law  to the contrary, a licensed pharmacy shall be
     8  permitted to employ up to four unlicensed assistants per pharmacist;
     9    § 2. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day  after  it  shall
    10  have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition, amendment and/or
    11  repeal  of  any  rule  or regulation necessary for the implementation of
    12  this act on its effective date are authorized to be made  and  completed
    13  on or before such effective date.
