Senate Resolution No. 2914

        COMMENDING  Roger E. Bradley posthumously upon the
        occasion  of  his  designation  as  recipient  of  a
        Liberty  Medal,  the  highest honor bestowed upon an
        individual by the New York State Senate
 
  WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of  New  York,
who  have  served  so  valiantly  and  honorably  in  wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of  peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
 
  WHEREAS,  This  Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Roger E.
Bradley posthumously upon the occasion of his designation  as  recipient
of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the
New York State Senate; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is  awarded  to  individuals  who  have  merited  special
commendation  for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and
 
  WHEREAS, Roger E. Bradley was born on April 23, 1932, to William and
Marjorie Bradley in Sharon, Connecticut; he  and  his  family  moved  to
Millerton, New York, where he graduated from the local high school; from
1948-1952,  he worked as a grocery clerk at the neighborhood A&P grocery
store; and
 
  WHEREAS, On August 21, 1952, Roger E. Bradley was inducted into  the
United  States  Army and after completing basic training, he attended an
additional 16 weeks of training at  Fort  Lee,  Virginia,  as  a  supply
handler and quartermaster; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Technician  Corporal Roger E. Bradley was then assigned to
Headquarter 8201 Army Unit United Nations Civil Command in  Korea  where
he proudly served his country for 15 months; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Upon  his discharge on August 5, 1954, at Camp Kilmer, New
Jersey, Corporal Roger E. Bradley was assigned  to  the  quartermaster's
corps in the Army Reserves to complete his military obligation; and
 
  WHEREAS,  For his courageous service during the Korean War, Corporal
Roger E. Bradley was awarded the Korean Service Medal w/ 1  Bronze  Star
Service  Star,  United  Nations  Service Medal, National Defense Service
Medal, and a Presidential Unit Citation; and
 
  WHEREAS, On June 28, 1958, Roger E. Bradley married the former  Mary
Vernal, and together, they raised two sons, James and Keith; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Roger  E.  Bradley  was  employed as a salesman for Arnoff
Moving and Storage, and was actively involved  in  his  community  as  a
member  of  the Millerton Fire Department, American Legion Post 178, the
Lions Club, the Kinderhook Elks, and Hudson American Legion; and
 
  WHEREAS, Roger E. Bradley died on June 11, 2022, at the age  of  90,
and  is  buried  next  to  his  beloved  wife in the Salisbury Cemetery,
Connecticut; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Having  exhibited  his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Roger E. Bradley demonstrated  his  love  for  his  country  and  merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Our  Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
commend   Roger  E.  Bradley  posthumously  upon  the  occasion  of  his
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor  bestowed
upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Roger E. Bradley.
