Senate Resolution No. 903

        HONORING  Reverend James J. Kane upon the occasion
        of the 50th Anniversary of  his  Ordination  to  the
        Priesthood, to be celebrated on May 26, 2021
 
  WHEREAS,  The character and richness of religious and community life
in this noble Empire State  are  nourished  and  fulfilled  through  the
faithful  concern  and  selfless  devotion  of  those  who  commit their
energies and purpose to the ministry of others; and
 
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this  Legislative  Body  to  bring  full
recognition  and  just tribute to individuals who distinguish themselves
and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and preeminence of
service; and
 
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly  proud  to  honor  Reverend
James  J.    Kane  upon  the  occasion  of  the  50th Anniversary of his
Ordination to the Priesthood,  to  be  celebrated  with  coffee  in  the
courtyard on Wednesday, May 26, 2021; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Born  in  Buffalo,  New  York,  James J. Kane attended St.
Thomas Aquinas (1959), Bishop Timon High School (1963), and Our Lady  of
Angels Seminary in Glenmont, New York; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Ordained to the priesthood in 1971 for the Ogdensburg, New
York, Catholic Diocese, Father James J. Kane then moved to  Albany,  New
York, in 1976; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Throughout  his  illustrious  career, Father James J. Kane
served at numerous parishes throughout New  York  State,  including  St.
Agnes  in Lake Placid, St. Patrick's in Port Henry, and St. Bernard's in
Saranac Lake; and
 
  WHEREAS, From 1976 through the present time, Father  James  J.  Kane
served nine parishes within the Albany Roman Catholic Diocese, including
St.    Jude's  in  Wynantskill,  Sacred  Heart in Albany, St. Helen's in
Niskayuna, St. Vincent de Paul in Albany, St.  Mary's  in  Gloversville,
St.   Agnes-St.      Patrick  in  Cohoes,  St.  Peter's  in  Stillwater,
Assumption/St. Paul in  Mechanicville,  St.  Patrick's  in  Ravena,  and
Christ Our Light in Loudonville; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Furthermore,  Father James J. Kane is an Honorary Canon at
the Episcopal Cathedral of All Saints in Albany, New York; and
 
  WHEREAS, Father  James  J.  Kane  has  served  as  Director  of  the
Commission  of  Ecumenical  and  Interreligious  Affairs  of  the  Roman
Catholic Diocese of Albany, appointed by then Bishop Howard  Hubbard  in
1982; and
 
  WHEREAS,  An  admired and respected leader in the State of New York,
Capital District, and beyond, Father James  J.  Kane,  in  the  area  of
ecumenical  and interfaith relations, has devoted himself to this effort
for over 40 years; and
 
  WHEREAS, Additionally, Father  James  J.  Kane  and  Bishop  Hubbard
accompanied  groups  on  three  goodwill  trips  to Israel in the 1980s,
leading to the first reconciliation service between Jews  and  Catholics
in  1986,  an  event  marked  by  the sculpture, "Portal," at the Albany
Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Father  James  J. Kane continues to foster positive change
and spiritual dialogue in the Capital District, promoting mutual respect
and understanding among faith  communities  within  the  Roman  Catholic
Diocese of Albany; and
 
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate  to  publicly  and  jubilantly  proclaim  and  commend  that
individual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
congratulate Reverend James J. Kane upon the occasion of celebrating the
50th  Anniversary  of  his  Ordination  to  the  Priesthood,  noting his
unremitting and compassionate faith and his exemplary  service  to  God,
man, and his community, and extending to him heartfelt best wishes for a
future of continued purposeful success and well-being; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Reverend James J. Kane.
