Assemblywoman Gunther Calls for Aid After Tornado Rips Through Sullivan County
Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther (D-Forestburgh) announced she is requesting assistance from Gov. Kathy Hochul and the federal government to support Sullivan County residents affected by the tornado that ripped through the area on Saturday, April 22. Assemblywoman Gunther and Gov. Hochul share many of the same concerns and are both committed to helping the impacted families.
“A disaster took place on Saturday, and while we can call ourselves blessed that no lives were lost, many of our friends and families will still require significant assistance,” said Gunther. “Our community has bravely come together during this challenging time, and I especially want to thank Callicoon Town Supervisor Tom Bose for his quick response and devotion toward helping those affected. Until every family is back on their feet and safe in their homes, I will not stop fighting for resources to expedite and ease recovery efforts.”
The tornado touched down in Roscoe and Callicoon Center, and while no deaths were reported, many homes and businesses were left without power and it caused thousands of dollars in damage.[1] Gunther noted that the recovery from Saturday’s tornado would take time, requiring volunteer efforts and additional assistance from the state and federal governments. She is continuing to visit those whose homes and businesses were damaged to understand better what aid will best help the community moving forward.
