Assemblyman Stirpe Appointed Chair of Economic Development Committee
Assemblyman Al Stirpe (D-Cicero) announced that Speaker Carl E. Heastie appointed him to serve as Chair of the Assembly’s Committee on Economic Development, Job Creation, Commerce and Industry. Stirpe previously served as a committee member before taking on the leadership role.
“I’m looking forward to continuing the economic development committee’s work to advance legislation supporting vital sectors, provide strategic investments in business development programs and grow technology and advanced manufacturing industries across New York,” said Stirpe. “I’m honored that Speaker Heastie entrusted me to lead this committee, and I’m committed to work hard alongside my colleagues to keep supporting the state’s many economic drivers. We will continue fostering opportunities for growth in New York’s business arena, so our workforce has access to good-paying jobs that help families not only make ends meet but thrive.”
As a member of the Assembly’s economic development committee, Stirpe has tackled complex issues and developed innovative solutions to grow industries and support existing businesses. He helped secure funding for grant programs to attract businesses and new job opportunities, along with developing tax credit programs to support businesses during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
