Goodell Announces Summer Reading Challenge

Students encouraged to read during summer vacation

Assemblyman Andy Goodell (R,C,I-Chautauqua) is encouraging local students to take part in his annual Summer Reading Challenge. As part of the challenge, students pledged to read 15 minutes or more each day for at least 40 days during the months of July and August.

“Reading opens the door to worlds near and far, from the smallest organisms to the farthest ends of the galaxies,” said Goodell. “Summer is the perfect time for kids to grab a good book and learn about the world around them. Studies show that children who continue to read during the summer perform better in school the next fall. Last year, we had an outstanding response from students across Chautauqua County, and I expect we will again this year.”

Students interested in participating in the challenge should contact Goodell’s district office at 2 E. Second St., Suite 320, Jamestown, NY, 14701, by phone at (716) 664-7773 or via email at goodella@assembly.state.ny.us. Students who successfully complete the challenge will receive a New York State Assembly Excellence in Reading Certificate. The challenge is sponsored by Assemblyman Goodell and the New York State Library.
