Beephan Introduces Bill to Increase Transparency of Electric Bills

Assemblyman Anil Beephan, Jr. (R,C-East Fishkill) introduced legislation to increase transparency in utility bills. The legislation would require electric companies to provide customers a clear, itemized breakdown of their monthly bills, making it easier to see what they are being charged for. Beephan says this will not only increase transparency but also make New Yorkers aware of how much they are paying for Albany’s green energy mandates.

“With many New Yorkers spending more and more on their utility bills every month, it is only fair they get to see what exactly they are being charged for. My bill will make sure ratepayers know how much of their money goes to infrastructure, the New York Power Authority and initiatives dictated by the state and the Public Service Commission. This will allow New Yorkers to see just how much Albany’s out-of-touch mandates are costing them, hopefully resulting in constructive dialogue between the state and the people of New York on energy policy. This legislation will finally bring New Yorkers out of the darkness and into the light when it comes to their electric bills,” said Beephan.
