Assemblyman Ari Brown (R-Cedarhurst) today applauded the long-awaited implementation of livestreamed committee hearings that are conducted by the Assembly. Although a change was made in 2016 thanks to a push from Assembly Minority to allow for livestreamed committee hearings, Assembly Majority have just now enacted this policy.

“Better late than never is the best that Albany can give us sometimes,” Brown said. “While I am pleased to see our government embrace more transparency and openness, it should not have taken more than six years to implement a policy in which the technology already exists. A special thank you to Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh for pushing for this for so many years.”

Assembly committees are bipartisan sub-groups of the house which vet and vote upon bills before they are advanced to the floor for a vote. Assemblyman Brown is the highest-ranking Minority member on the Local Governments Committee.

“All legislators should be held accountable and that includes during committee meetings where many of our ideas are voted down. I hope this helps shed a light on the stranglehold the Majority have on our legislative process so voters can make a more informed choice,” Brown finished.
