Assemblyman Ari Brown Attends Press Conference to Announce New Veterans Village Facility

Mineola, NY – September 9, 2024 – NYS Assemblyman Ari Brown joined Tunnel to Towers Chairman and CEO Frank Siller and Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman today for a press conference at the Theodore Roosevelt Legislative & Executive Office Building in Mineola. The event unveiled plans to develop a new Veterans Village facility in Nassau County, aimed at providing crucial support to veterans on Long Island.

The Veterans Village will be constructed on a 15-acre site at 3915 Austin Blvd, Island Park, a property previously occupied by a motel that had become a concern for the local community. Nassau County has generously donated this land for the project, which was approved by both the Open Space Committee and the Planning Commission.

The new facility, spearheaded by Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, will replace the old structure with a modern 42-unit apartment complex designed to offer more than just housing. Set to be completed in 2025, the Veterans Village will provide on-site support services including job training, benefits assistance, educational support, financial management, legal advocacy, medical care, mental health support, PTSD counseling, and addiction treatment.

County Executive Bruce Blakeman, whose personal connection to this cause is deeply rooted in his parents' World War II service, expressed his dedication to the project. “This initiative honors my parents’ legacy of service,” said Blakeman. “We are proud to donate this land to create a supportive environment for those who have served our nation.”

Assemblyman Ari Brown emphasized the project's significance, noting, “Today’s announcement highlights our commitment to supporting our veterans. Having recently donated a kidney to a Purple Heart veteran, I am particularly moved by this initiative. This new Veterans Village will provide essential services and foster a supportive community for our veterans, reflecting Nassau County’s leadership and dedication.”

The transformation of the site from a problem area into a beacon of hope for veterans represents a positive move forward for the community, honoring those who have served with the dignity and support they deserve.
