Assemblyman Ari Brown Welcomes Israeli Consul General Ofir Akunis to the State Capitol

ALBANY, NY — Today, Assemblyman Ari Brown (R–Cedarhurst) proudly joined Assemblyman Jake Blumencranz and fellow legislators in welcoming His Excellency Ofir Akunis, Consul General of Israel in New York, to the New York State Capitol.

The event, held on the Million Dollar Staircase, served as a strong reaffirmation of the enduring bond between New York and the State of Israel. During the press conference, Assemblyman Brown offered heartfelt remarks grounded in faith and unity.

“Every morning, the Jewish people begin their day in prayer, thanking God for the gift of life,” said Brown. “Throughout the day, we pray for our people—and for all people across the United States. Our hope is that this spirit of prayer, compassion, and mutual respect is not only felt, but reciprocated by others. That is how we build true understanding and lasting peace.”

The event highlighted several key goals, including:

  • Strengthening the relationship between New York and Israel;
  • Expanding access to Israeli consular services for New Yorkers of Israeli descent;
  • Standing united against the alarming rise in antisemitism;
  • Honoring Ambassador Akunis’s global leadership, especially in science and technology.

Following the press conference, Assemblyman Brown joined his colleagues in presenting Ambassador Akunis with an official New York State Assembly Proclamation and welcomed him onto the Assembly floor for formal recognition.

“It was a tremendous honor to take part in today’s gathering,” said Brown. “Ambassador Akunis is a distinguished leader who represents the strength, resilience, and innovation of the Israeli people. His presence here in Albany sends a powerful message: New York stands with Israel—now and always.”
