Assemblyman Jones Completes Day Three of Infrastructure Tour

Assemblyman Billy Jones (D-Chateaugay) completed the third day of his infrastructure tour today, making stops in northern Clinton County with town officials from Champlain, Chazy and Mooers.

“This is one of the most important parts of my job – getting out and about in the district,” said Jones. “This tour has given me the opportunity to learn firsthand the needs of our local communities, take a look at their equipment, and understand the unique challenges that these rural towns face. I look forward to taking all of this back to Albany to fight for more resources for them.”

Today, Jones visited with town and village officials looking at various infrastructure projects such as recreational paths, roads, and water plants. Besides maintaining local roads for automobiles, residents increasingly look towards their towns to provide multimodal recreational opportunities in forms of bicycle and walking paths as well as provide essential services, noted Jones.

It’s been a busy week for the assemblyman, having visited nine towns and highway departments. On Monday, he visited the Clinton County towns of Beekmantown, Plattsburgh and Schuyler Falls. On Tuesday, he was in the Franklin County towns of Bellmont, Burke and Chateaugay. He plans to have further tours later in July and August.

Jones has continually fought to secure state funding to help replace the North Country’s roads and bridges. He helped pass a 2019-20 state budget that provides $438.1 million for the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPs) and $39.7 million for the Marchiselli Program. These programs help municipalities complete much-needed road and bridge maintenance projects. Additionally, in the final weeks of the 2019 legislative session, Jones helped secure $65 million in Extreme Winter Recovery funding.
