Assemblyman Jones: NYPA’s Investment Will Bolster North Country Economy

Assemblyman Billy Jones (D-Chateaugay) announced that the New York Power Authority (NYPA) approved $22.6 million to fund a 20-megawatt battery storage demonstration facility in Chateaugay.

“The New York Power Authority's project will not only put us on the forefront of harnessing renewable energy, it will also power our economy, spurring economic growth and making it easier for people to find good jobs close to home,” said Jones. “Energy storage is vital to the growth of renewable energy and a reliable power grid. This is a huge victory for hardworking North Country families.”

The 20-megawatt battery storage demonstration facility will be built next to an existing electricity transmission substation in Chateaugay. The project will include a one-hour lithium-ion battery system to absorb excess generation for later delivery.
