Assemblyman Jones: $67.9 Million in REDC Funding Awarded to North Country Communities

Assemblyman Billy Jones (D-Plattsburgh) announced that the North Country will receive $67.9 million through awards provided by the Regional Economic Development Council (REDC).

“This is a tremendous economic opportunity for the region, as these projects promise to make our communities even better places to live and visit,” said Jones. “This state funding will help continue the North Country’s revitalization by bolstering our water infrastructure, revamping our downtown areas and boosting our tourism industry.”

The funding will support a variety of projects across the North Country, including:

  • the revitalization of downtown Potsdam;
  • an alternative drinking water supply for the town of Black Brook;
  • improved wastewater treatment in Chateaugay;
  • the redevelopment of the former Pfizer manufacturing site in Rouses Point into an industrial park;
  • the rehabilitation of Eagle Island, which will include the addition of a summer youth camp; and
  • the renovation of an industrial warehouse in Saranac Lake, which will house an interactive children’s museum and family resource center.

“The REDC is helping reinvigorate the region by investing in local businesses and creating new job opportunities for our families,” said Jones. “This is great victory for the North Country that will benefit our communities for years to come.”
