Assemblyman Jones Announces Funding to Improve Plattsburgh Public Library

Assemblyman Billy Jones (D-Chateaugay Lake) announced that Plattsburgh Public Library will receive a state grant of more than $8,600 to make necessary renovations.

“Libraries help foster a love of learning and a sense of community,” Assemblyman Jones said. “They also provide community members of all ages and backgrounds with crucial resources, including family support, computer and internet access and job search assistance. Libraries and the people who utilize them deserve to have every tool they need to succeed, and I’m happy to help our library remain a safe space in the community.”

The $8,640 grant comes from a $14 million capital fund that Assemblyman Jones secured in the 2020-21 state budget. The grant will be used to help Plattsburgh Public Library replace the exterior steel basement door and purchase an air purifier for common spaces. These improvements are necessary to secure the library and ensure that air in the common spaces is clean, especially during the ongoing pandemic, Jones noted.

In the 2021-2022 state budget, the legislature provided an additional $34 million for library projects that will be announced in Summer 2022.
