Curran Calls on Legislature to Reverse Bail Reform

Today, Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook- 21st A.D.) joined Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay (R,C-Pulaski), Senate Minority Leader Rob Ortt (R,C-Tonawanda) and members of the Assembly and Senate Minority Conferences for a press conference to call for the reversal of bail reform and more meaningful change to improve public safety.

“The proposals put forth today are a good first step toward bringing crime down in New York. All corners of the state from Long Island to Niagara Falls, have been impacted by the rising wave of crime. We as elected officials have a sacred duty to serve our constituents, and what better way to serve them than by helping to keep them safe,” Curran said.

Noting that the rise in crime has come off the backs of bail reform and the ‘defund the police’ movement, Curran is supportive of reversing bail reform and also fully funding the police so they can do their jobs and keep our streets safe.

“Bail reform and the ‘defund’ movement have been utter failures from the beginning. The only way we can keep people safe in our state is to make sure violent criminals remain behind bars and our brave police officers receive the proper funding they deserve. Unfortunately, the Majority in Albany have proven to be unwilling to work with us to keep people safe. In spite of this, the Minority Conference and I will always work to ensure our citizens are safe,” concluded Curran.
