Maher Celebrates “Read Across America Week” Reading to Daughter’s Third-Grade Class
Assemblyman Brian Maher (R,C-Walden) recently joined his daughter Mia’s third-grade class at East Coldenham Elementary School in Valley Central School District to kick-off Read Across America Week, which is celebrated from March 2 through 6. In 1998, the National Education Association launched Read Across America Day on March 2, Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
“The lessons we can learn and the perspective we can gain from reading books is invaluable and I enjoy encouraging children to grow a passion for reading. Mia really loves the book “The Smart Cookie,” which helps children understand that everyone struggles sometimes but despite that, everyone has something to offer and they are ‘smart cookies.’ I hope everyone takes the time to read to the children in their lives this week and throughout the year,” said Maher.
