Assemblyman Maher Launches Petition Urging NYS DOT to Prioritize Route 211 Repaving in Montgomery

Assemblyman Brian Maher (R,C–Walden) is calling on all Town and Village of Montgomery residents to sign his petition urging the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) to prioritize the repaving of Route 211 from Dunn Road to Ward Street in the Village and Town of Montgomery. The petition calls for the project to be fully funded in the 2026 state capital plan to address growing safety and infrastructure concerns along this critical roadway.

“While we understand there are a limitless number of state roads in disrepair, this stretch of Route 211 has become increasingly unsafe for drivers, residents and local businesses,” said Maher. “It’s time the state takes meaningful action to fix this vital corridor that so many families and commuters rely on daily.”

NYS Route 211 is part of the Village of Montgomery Historic District, and its central portion—Union Street—serves as the pulse of the greater Montgomery community, home to Montgomery Elementary School and countless local businesses. Maher emphasized that this repaving project is not just about road maintenance, but about protecting the safety, economy and character of the region.

“This repaving project is an essential investment in the heart of our community,” Maher continued. “Union Street isn’t just a road, it’s where our families, schools and small businesses come together every day. Restoring it will strengthen the safety, economy and character of Montgomery for years to come.”

The petition will be delivered to DOT on behalf of Assemblyman Brian Maher, Sen. Rob Rolison, Town of Montgomery Supervisor Steve Brescia, and Village of Montgomery Mayor Mike Hembury as well the respective town and village boards. Maher thanked the Village of Montgomery mayor and board for working with his office to start this process with a formal resolution requesting DOT prioritize this long-overdue project.

“I applaud Assemblyman Brian Maher’s efforts to repave the gateway to our beautiful and historic village,” said Village of Montgomery Mayor Mike Hembury. “We must all join the Assemblyman and work together and collect as many signatures as possible to ensure this project is included in DOT’s upcoming capital plan.”

“This portion of Route 211 supports one of the largest economic corridors in Orange County,” said Town of Montgomery Supervisor Steve Bresica. “It is vital that we support Assemblyman Maher’s petition to ensure that New York state commits to maintaining it properly.”

Residents are encouraged to sign the petition to show their support and help deliver the safe, reliable roads Montgomery deserves.
