Assemblyman Maher Addresses Energy Policy in New Monthly Newsletter to Constituents
Assemblyman Brian Maher (R,C–Walden) has released the first issue of his new monthly newsletter, Maher’s Legislative Lowdown, highlighting key updates and major wins for his district. This month’s edition breaks down a major victory—the statewide pause on the all-electric mandate—and outlines the next steps in advocating for practical, affordable energy solutions.
Key details from this month's edition include:
- New York state has officially paused the All-Electric Buildings Act, acknowledging concerns raised by residents, builders and the Assembly Minority about affordability, grid readiness and the impact on families and small businesses.
- The pause recognizes that the electrical grid is not prepared for full electrification, with rising utility costs, infrastructure limitations and extreme-weather reliability concerns making a rushed mandate unsafe and unrealistic.
- Maher will continue pushing for a balanced, bipartisan energy strategy that protects consumer choice, accounts for regional differences, keeps energy affordable and supports practical, achievable pathways toward cleaner energy.
The newsletter highlights the importance of ensuring New York’s energy transition is grounded in real-world readiness—not political timelines—and emphasizes the need for Albany to prioritize affordability and infrastructure investment before imposing costly mandates on families and businesses. Maher reiterated his commitment to advocating for policies that strengthen grid reliability, support working- and middle-class households and deliver transparent, common-sense energy reforms that benefit every community across the Hudson Valley.
“Clean energy is an important goal, but it must be achievable, affordable and fair for all New Yorkers,” said Maher. “We also need to pause the mandates for electric school buses. This plan is unrealistic, unsafe and would force school districts to divert funding away from our children’s education to pay for it. This pause is a win for our communities, and I will continue fighting for responsible energy policy that puts people first.”
