Friend Calls for Federal Investigation into Nursing Home Death Cover-Up
Statement from Assemblyman Christopher S. Friend (R,C,I-Big Flats) on Cuomo aide’s admission they were withholding damning nursing home death information
“I would like to say that I am surprised the Cuomo administration had been actively covering up nursing home deaths but, quite frankly, the public and diligent reporters knew all along. Attorney General James found that the numbers were not adding up and observational reports from loved ones of nursing home residents painted an entirely different picture than what was officially being shared by the Cuomo administration. The fact that the truth was admitted in a closed-door meeting with top Majority from the Legislature, who have been unwilling to investigate the matter through our committees, and that just days before the governor was meddling with the Joint Commission on Public Ethics, requires a full federal investigation into the nursing home tragedy. The legislature should strip the governor of his emergency powers and resume its role as a coequal branch of government immediately. He should step down from office and all proceeds from his self-congratulatory book should go to families who lost loved ones to his negligence. New York families deserve justice and the entire truth.”
