Two Environmental Organizations Give State Assemblyman David Buchwald Perfect Scores
Both of the leading voices in ranking New York State legislators based on their environmental voting records, Environmental Advocates of New York and the New York League of Conservation Voters, have given State Assemblyman David Buchwald (D-Westchester) a perfect score. These highest scores possible solidify his status as a top defender of New York State’s environment.
For the sixth year in a row, Environmental Advocates of New York calculated a perfect score of 100% for Assemblyman Buchwald. The organization champions policies and practices that ensure the responsible stewardship of the state’s air, land, water, and wildlife along with the health of all New Yorkers.
The New York League of Conservation Voters, in its second annual environmental scorecard, gave Assemblyman Buchwald another perfect score of 100. The League fights for clean water, clean air, renewable energy and open space through political advocacy.
Among the bills Assemblyman Buchwald supported during the legislative session are: a ban on offshore oil drilling; a requirement for the prescription drug industry to establish take back programs for unused medications; an establishment of a disposal program to keep unused paint out of landfills; and a set of standards for pollinator-friendly businesses.
“It is an honor to be recognized with perfect legislative scores,” said Assemblyman Buchwald. “Washington’s assault on our environment with proposals such as offshore drilling and reducing air pollution standards, necessitates continued efforts to protect New Yorkers from serious environmental challenges.”
Peter Iwanowicz, Executive Director of EPL/Environmental Advocates said, “Assemblymember Buchwald’s support for big and bold legislation – like the Climate and Community Protection Act, that fights climate change, and the Environmental Bill of Rights, that guarantees New Yorkers a right to clean air and water – will help make New York the environmental leader the world needs it to be. EPL/Environmental Advocates commends him on his work on behalf of our environment and public health.”
Marcia Bystryn, President of the New York League of Conservation Voters, said, “We proudly commend Assemblyman David Buchwald on his perfect score on our State Environmental Scorecard. It is more important than ever that our state legislators fight climate change and protect our natural resources. This score of 100% recognizes Assemblyman Buchwald's cooperation with his colleagues on legislation that would improve New York's public and environmental health. We thank Assemblyman Buchwald for all of his work protecting Westchester and New York State.”
Since 2013, Assemblyman Buchwald has been an outspoken advocate for environmentally responsible legislation. He has successfully enacted legislation to assist local Westchester lakes and rivers access state cleanup funds. He also this year steered legislation (A.302-A) through four committees that would prohibit the acceptance of hydrofracking waste in New York’s wastewater treatment and solid waste disposal facilities.
