McDonough Hosts Prostate Cancer Screening Day
Encourages men to take part in free health screening
On Saturday, Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) partnered with Integrated Medical Foundation to host a Prostate Cancer Screening Day, a FREE event open to any man over the age of 40 who has not previously been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Despite prostate cancer being the second-most common cancer among men, many men ignore this critical screening each year. As a result, about one in seven men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime. In 2014, an estimated 233,000 new cases will be diagnosed and about 29,480 men will die of the disease.
“Prostate cancer ranks among the most deadly diseases for men, and I want to thank Integrated Medical for partnering with me to provide this critical program for the men in our community,” said McDonough. “Unfortunately, many men do not get tested for this disease, despite the known health benefits of early detection. I also want to thank the many wives who encouraged their husbands to get tested, so they can be around for years to come.”
