Assemblyman Weprin Holds Town Hall Meeting

Assemblyman Weprin spoke to constituents today at the Samuel Field Y about current legislation in Albany and how this will affect the people of the district.

Recently appointed Commissioner of the NYS Dept of Homes and Community Renewal Darryl Towns spoke to constituents about his role at the agency and his plans to improve and protect affordable housing. He urged constituents to contact their elected officials about extending and strengthening the current rent stabilization and regulation laws, which are set to expire on June 15. Congressman Gregory Meeks stopped by to discuss recent developments and the United State’s position on Israeli-Palestinian relations. Congressman Meeks said he hoped to see both sides come together to formulate a long term agreement that would ensure stable and peaceful relations between both states.

State Senator Toby Stavisky also stopped by to discuss that status of the recent Co-Op property tax increases in Queens, as well as news from Albany.

Recently, the NYC Department of Finance sent notices of tax lien to property owners with unpaid property taxes, water and sewer charges, and other outstanding charges. Lee Fiorino, Director of Business Community Outreach for the NYC Dept. of Finance, stated that certain owners can be excluded from the lien sale. These are owners with senior citizen homeowner’s exemption (SCHE), disabled homeowner’s exemption, or the veterans’ exemption, owners with real property tax credits, and active duty military personnel. Representatives from the NYS Dept. of Insurance, the NYS Comptroller's Unclaimed Funds Program, NYS Epic, the NYC Department of Building addressed constituent concerns and provided general information about programs and services each agency offers.
