Assemblyman David Weprin Statement in Response to the Deportation of Nazi Prison Guard Jakiw Palij

QUEENS, NEW YORK - Assemblyman David Weprin issued the following statement in response to the deportation of Nazi prison guard Jakiw Palij:

“Those who are accomplices to the horrific crimes of the Holocaust, the worst mass genocide in history, will never be accepted in our free and civilized society. It was an affront to justice that Nazi prison guard Jakiw Palij was allowed to enter our country and live freely in the most diverse place in the United States. Our government has served this monster justice by permanently removing him from the country and deporting him to Germany to face charges for his transgressions at the Trawniki concentration camp where he helped to prevent the escape of prisoners, ensuring the death of at least 6,000 Jews. We must never stop pursing justice for the victims of the Holocaust, they will not be forgotten. I want to commend the Trump administration for its successful diplomatic negotiations with Germany which allowed for a deportation originally ordered 14 years ago to finally proceed.”
