Assemblyman Ed Flood (R,C-Port-Jefferson) attended a press conference today alongside Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay (R,C-Pulaski), Sen. Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats), and members of the Assembly and Senate Minority Conferences to call on Gov. Hochul to provide greater judicial discretion in order to increase public safety. The legislators were joined by Tammy Patrick, whose father was brutally killed last year after a repeat offender was released under the 2019 bail reform laws, as well as Jennifer Harrison, the founder of Victims Rights NY. 

“I want to thank Ms. Patrick for taking the time today to speak about her father in front of strangers and state legislators; it took a lot of courage and determination. Her father, an innocent 78-year-old man, was attacked in his own home by a criminal released under the senseless cashless bail reform laws. Tragedies like this could easily be avoided if legislators on both sides of the aisle would work together to put forth common-sense legislation to keep violent offenders off the streets. As I continue my first legislative session, I will advocate to repeal bail reform and restore judicial discretion so my constituents and all New Yorkers can feel safe again,” said Flood.
