Flood Demands Equal Pay for Equal Work
A Statement from Assemblyman Ed Flood (R,C-Port Jefferson) on increasing pay for direct support professionals.
“Direct support professionals (DSP) are some of the most dedicated and caring workers who help with several levels of daily care for the most vulnerable individuals,” said Flood. “It is crucial that their pay reflects their cost of living and is a reflection of the level of care they provide for individuals with disabilities. Many DSP’s are working two or three jobs to provide for their families but they continue working with this unique community because of the tremendous bond and level of trust that they build. It is a heartbreak when the individuals find that their caretakers have left and have to rebuild that trust again. I want to thank every DSP for their sincere work, and I will continue to advocate with my colleagues, so they receive more funding for fair wages in this year’s state budget.
