Flood Presents Official Proclamation to Lunch Monitor for Successfully Performing the Heimlich Maneuver to Save A Life

Assemblyman Ed Flood (R,C-Port Jefferson) and Sen. Anthony Palumbo (R,C-New Suffolk)recently presented an official Assembly Proclamation to Jessica Carioshia and a citation to Aidan Sterne and Susan Archer for successfully performing the Heimlich maneuver to save a life. Fourth grader Aidan Sterne noticed one of his friends was choking during lunch in the cafeteria and quickly notified the lunch monitor, Jessica Carioshia, who quickly performed the Heimlich maneuver to help the student. The student was cleared by the school nurse to return to normal activities due to Jessica’s quick response to the student in distress. Each year, Ms. Archer teaches the Heimlich maneuver to students at the beginning of the school year then again in June.

“The story of Jessica and Aidan was truly inspiring with their life-saving efforts to the student in need of assistance. ​​They are both true heroes in action! Jessica stepped up at a critical moment and saved a life by helping someone who was choking. Your quick thinking and bravery are an inspiration to us all!”
