Assemblymember Fred W. Thiele (D-Sag Harbor) today sent a letter to the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) in support of a petition submitted by the Village of Sag Harbor requesting that the PSC annul the agreement of last year between National Grid and Adam Potter whereby Mr. Potter is to receive a 99-year lease for the utility’s former manufactured gas facility located on 5 Bridge Street in Sag Harbor starting January 1, 2023.

In the letter, Assemblyman Thiele expressed his support to instead award the lease of the premises to the Village of Sag Harbor due to the irreparable harm it would cause the economy of the Village by losing this vital public facility that is critically needed for downtown parking.

Assemblyman Thiele stated, “I fully support awarding the lease of 5 Bridge Street to the Village of Sag Harbor. This deal would cause irreparable harm and is not in the public interest. I urge the Public Service Commission to complete a thorough review of the proposed transaction that is deeply flawed and disapprove the National Grid Application as submitted.”
