Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. Announces Empire State Child Credit Supplemental Payments for Over 1.5 Million New Yorkers
Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (D-Sag Harbor) today announced the issuance of supplemental payments authorized under the 2024-25 State Budget for the Empire State Child Credit. The Empire State Child Credit is a tax credit program offered by New York State to provide financial relief to families with children. The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance will distribute relief payments to more than 1.5 million low- and moderate-income New Yorkers, averaging $223 per recipient.
The initiative targets taxpayers who received the Empire State Child Credit on their 2023 state tax returns. Eligible individuals must have received at least $100 for the credit and filed a New York State Resident Income Tax Return (Form IT-201) by April 15, 2024, or obtained a valid extension.
"I am pleased that these vital payments will be delivered to hardworking families across our state," said Assemblyman Thiele. "This program underscores my commitment to supporting families and children, ensuring that they receive the financial relief they deserve."
The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance will automatically calculate payment amounts based on 2023 Federal Adjusted Gross Income (FAGI). Payments will range from 25% to 100% of the amount of the Empire State Child Credit received for tax year 2023, distributed as follows:
- Less than $10,000 FAGI: 100% of the credit allowed
- $10,000 to $24,999 FAGI: 75% of the credit allowed
- $25,000 to $49,999 FAGI: 50% of the credit allowed
- $50,000 or greater FAGI: 25% of the credit allowed
Recipients do not need to take any action to receive payments, as checks will be sent automatically by the Tax Department.
