Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (I, D, WF, REF - Sag Harbor) today announced that the New York Power Authority (NYPA) has selected the Parrish Art Museum as a partner for its economic development program ReCharge NY. In exchange for low-cost clean energy, the Parrish will commit to retaining and creating jobs. It is part of the latest round of ReCharge NY power allocations, which is expected to create more than 520 new jobs and result in capital investments of more than $400 million throughout the state.

Assemblyman Thiele stated, “I was happy to support the Parrish Art Museum’s application for NYPA’s ReCharge NY power allocation, and I am pleased that they will reap the benefits of a partnership with this critical economic program. As a premier, year-round arts and cultural institution for the East End community, the Parrish runs extensive and costly programming in its 34,400 square foot facility. The museum will greatly benefit from a reduction in energy costs.�

“At the Parrish Art Museum’s new building in Water Mill, we have sought to be as ecologically sound and gentle on the environment as possible,� said Terrie Sultan, Director of the Parrish Art Museum. “We are thrilled to be a part of this essential program that not only provides us with clean energy, but helps us keep our operating costs low and ensures that we can create and maintain employment opportunities for the many members of our community who work together to make Long Island a star in the firmament of New York State.�

Through its partnership with Re-Charge NY, the Parrish can retain 44 jobs and create 6 new jobs. With a recommended 76 kilowatts and capital investment of $125,000, this program will allow the museum to keep operating costs low, and support program development and long-term investment in sustainable resources.

The NYPA Board of Trustees approved 14 megawatts (MW) of low-cost ReCharge NY power to 28 enterprises around the state. With these latest allocations, ReCharge NY currently provides more than 760 megawatts of power to 770 businesses and nonprofit organizations in support of the creation and retention of jobs statewide. The discount power program offers up to seven-year power contracts with half of the power – 455 MW – coming from NYPA's Niagara and St. Lawrence-Franklin D. Roosevelt hydroelectric power plants, which provide some of the greenest, cleanest and low-cost electricity in the state.

NYPA is the largest state public power organization in the nation, operating 16 generating facilities and more than 1,400 circuit-miles of transmission lines. More than 70 percent of the electricity NYPA produces is clean renewable hydropower. NYPA uses no tax money or state credit. It finances its operations through the sale of bonds and revenues earned in large part through sales of electricity.

Founded in 1897, the Parrish Art Museum fosters connections among individuals, art, and artists through care and interpretation of the collection, presentation of exhibitions, publications, educational initiatives, programs, and artists-in-residence.
