A Civil Service Exam for the Position of Correction Officer Will Be Held In October 2019

Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr. (I, D, WF-Sag Harbor) today announced that the New York State Department of Civil Service will be holding a new examination for the position of correction officer in October 2019. The filing deadline for this examination is September 20, 2019.

A correction officer trainee’s starting salary is currently $43,937 per year. After six months, the salary increases to $46,214. After successful completion of the one-year correction officer traineeship, the salary increases to $52,919 per year.

To qualify, you must be 21 years or older at time of appointment (there is no age requirement to take the exam), a U.S. citizen and a resident of New York at the time of employment acceptance, and possess a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma.
