Thiele to Hold Informational Forum for Manufactured Home Park Residents

Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (I, D, WF-Sag Harbor) today announced that he will be holding an informational forum for manufactured home park residents regarding the “Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act of 2019" on Tuesday, October 29th from 2:00–5:00 PM at the Suffolk County Center Evans K. Griffing Building in the Maxine S. Postal Auditorium located at 300 Center Drive in Riverhead.

Assemblyman Thiele will be joined by RuthAnne Visnauskas, Commissioner of the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal, Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz, Chair of the Assembly Standing Committee on Housing, and a representative from the Attorney General’s office.

In June, the State Legislature enacted sweeping housing reforms which were intended to protect tenants in permanent residential housing. The “Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act of 2019" is an omnibus affordable housing and rent regulations bill, which provides long-overdue protections for manufactured home residents, including a legal remedy for unreasonable rent increases (Part O of Chapter #36 of the Laws of 2019). Manufactured homes are a critical source of affordable housing for residents in New York State, particularly for senior citizens on fixed incomes seeking to remain in their communities. This new law provides protections that address the uniqueness of home ownership in manufactured home parks. These new provisions went into effect on July 14th.
