I am deeply disturbed by the hateful resolution that passed Community Education Council (CEC) District 2 last night. As an elected official whose district covers part of CEC 2, I want to make it unequivocally clear that policies that harm LGBTQIA+ youth have no home in our neighborhood. This resolution does not align with our city’s values and perpetuates a harmful narrative that when students can be their authentic selves, it somehow takes away from others. I know that everyone benefits from an education system that is inclusive of all people and allows students to represent their gender identity freely based on their personal expression.
