Ashby: So-Called Green Light Bill Gives Illegal Immigrants Green Light To Continue To Ignore The Law

Assemblyman Jake Ashby (R,C,I,Ref- Castleton) is alarmed by the movement of A.3675-A, a bill which would provide driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants. The bill was approved to move to the Assembly Floor for a vote by the Committee on Transportation, which Speaker Carl Heastie said would occur next week. If enacted, more than 250,000 illegal immigrants could potentially be issued a driver’s license, despite a majority of New Yorkers opposing the policy, according to a Siena Poll in March 2019.

“New Yorkers are opposed to illegal immigrants being issued driver’s licenses and our county sheriffs and clerks have raised serious concerns over the policy; however, the Assembly Majority is eagerly willing to defy the will of the people to pass this,” said Ashby. “If the so-called ‘Green Light Bill’ is passed, they are giving those without legal status the green light to continue to break our nation’s laws.”
