Assemblyman Jake Ashby (R,C,I,Ref- Castleton) is alarmed by the movement of A.3675-A, a bill which would provide drivers licenses to illegal immigrants. The bill was approved to move to the Assembly Floor for a vote by the Committee on Transportation, which Speaker Carl Heastie said would occur next week. If enacted, more than 250,000 illegal immigrants could potentially be issued a drivers license, despite a majority of New Yorkers opposing the policy, according to a Siena Poll in March 2019.
New Yorkers are opposed to illegal immigrants being issued drivers licenses and our county sheriffs and clerks have raised serious concerns over the policy; however, the Assembly Majority is eagerly willing to defy the will of the people to pass this, said Ashby. If the so-called Green Light Bill is passed, they are giving those without legal status the green light to continue to break our nations laws.
