Ashby Appointed Ranking Minority On Assembly Committees On Veterans’ Affairs And Aging

Assemblyman Jake Ashby (R,C,I,Ref-Castleton) was appointed by newly-elected Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay (R,C,I,Ref-Pulaski) to be the Ranking Minority Member on the Assembly Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. In his role, Ashby will be able to help direct policy to be more supportive to veterans, especially in the areas of mental health support. Ashby himself is a veteran, having served in the US Army.

“I look forward to advocating on behalf of my fellow veterans as the Ranking Minority Member of the Assembly Committee on Veterans’ Affairs,” said Ashby. “As we can see last year, the Assembly Majority chair failed to protect the interests of the men and women protecting our country. We had to fight vigorously for Gold Star family scholarships to be expanded and for the continuation of the Joseph P. Dwyer Peer Counseling Program. I will not let the Assembly forget all that our veterans have done for our state and country.”

“I am pleased to appoint Jake Ashby as our ranking member on the Assembly’s Veterans’ Affairs Committee. Since his first day in the Legislature, Jake has demonstrated a tireless commitment to his constituents and tremendous dedication to New York’s veterans. His years of service to our country gives him first-hand experience and a unique perspective that we will rely upon as our Conference advocates for military veterans. I congratulate Jake and look forward to working alongside him this year,” said Assembly Minority Leader Barclay.

Additionally, Ashby was re-appointed to continue on as the Ranking Minority Member of the Assembly Committee on the Aging. He also will serve on the Assembly Committees on Health, Higher Education, and Tourism.
