Assemblyman Jake Ashby (R,C,I,Ref-Castleton) welcomed STRIDE Adaptive Sports Capital District Sled Warriors to the State Capitol. The Sled Warriors is an adaptive full-contact sled hockey team comprising of wounded warrior veterans and athletes with special physical or developmental needs. They were introduced by the assemblyman during Assembly legislative proceedings to honor them for their recent gold medal win at the Empire State Winter Games.
I am so proud and excited for the Sled Warriors amazing gold win at the Empire State Winter Games. I couldnt wait to introduce and honor them in the Assembly Chamber in the Capitol, said Ashby, who is also an occupational therapist. These athletes are wounded warrior veterans and everyday warriors showing us their exceptional capability and resolve. Athletics programs like STRIDE Adaptive Sports should be applauded for giving a space for individuals to be involved in strength- and esteem-building activities.
The Sled Warriors team athletes are Jesse Bulger, Bryan Darby, Shawn Fultz, Derek Gallo, Gordon Ide, Brenda Jensis, Christine Lucier, Steve Pechacek, Natasha Pomakoy, Richard Pooters, Jr., Abigail Radliff, Robert Radliff, Shaw Rawlins, Stefon Stilwell, Victor Tomelden, Benjamin Wilson and Luke Wilson. The team is managed by Coach Chris Mancuso, Team Rep. and Manager Kimberly Wilson, and volunteers Donald Gallo, Max Sherman and Thomas Wilson.
STRIDE Adaptive Sports is an organization which offers a variety of athletic and fitness programs for those with physical disabilities. In addition to sled hockey, they offer archery, target shooting, white water rafting, bowling, golf, skiing and snowboarding, ski racing, snowshoeing, hiking, camping, sailing, swimming, tennis, yoga and dancing. Additionally, they work with area school districts to ensure athletics are accessible and available to students with disabilities, and host a number of Wounded Warrior focused services.
