Assemblyman Jake Ashby (R,C,I-Castleton) was recently appointed to serve on the powerful Assembly Ways and Means Committee by Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay (R,C,I,Ref-Pulaski).
The Ways and Means Committee is tasked with overseeing all matters pertaining to the adoption of a state budget as well as having direct jurisdiction over all legislation introduced in the Assembly that would impact spending or revenues at the state or local level.
Barclay praised Ashby for his commitment to transparency and responsible fiscal management in announcing his appointment to the Ways and Means Committee.
"New York's current financial condition demands that we are more prudent and transparent about all state spending decisions. With significant budget challenges ahead, Jake Ashby will be a great asset on the Assembly Ways and Means Committee," Barclay said. "He has continuously stood for responsible budgeting, reining in wasteful programs and above all – protecting taxpayers. I'm happy to announce his appointment to this important committee."
Ashby expressed his eagerness to get to work on this year’s budget and highlighted the importance of our community being directly represented on the Ways and Means Committee.
“I am honored to begin serving on the Ways and Means Committee and have already begun combing over our state finances,” said Ashby. “I look forward to utilizing my influence as a member of the committee to ensure our schools and roads receive much-needed funding, eliminate unfunded mandates that are crippling our local municipalities and provide the necessary support to our community organizations and non-profits.”The 2021-2022 Legislative Session is set to begin on January 6, for more information on Assemblyman Ashby and the 2021-2022 Legislative Session, visit: https://www.assembly.state.ny.us/mem/Jake-Ashby.
