Gallahan Calls on Commissioner of Taxation and Finance to Postpone State Tax Deadline

Today, Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan (R,C-Manchester) is calling on the Commissioner of the State Department of Taxation and Finance, Michael Schmidt, to postpone the deadline to file personal state income taxes from April 15 to May 17.The IRS recently announced the extension of federal returns to May 17.

"It is common sense for the state and federal due dates to file taxes to match, but right now those dates are over a month apart,” said Gallahan. “With the announced change to federal returns, New York should change their due date as well. That is why I'm calling on the State Department of Taxation and Finance to extend New York's deadline. With the immense challenges many have faced in maintaining their personal finances this year, individuals and tax preparers deserve this extra time to file their returns."
