Here are the Latest Updates Regarding the City and State's Response to COVID-19:
- New York State now has 20,875 confirmed COVID-19 cases; 12,339 confirmed cases in New York City.
- Until further notice, we will be canceling all of our scheduled community events, such as paper shredding events, community book tables, and electronic recycling events. Our biweekly legal night will also be postponed until further notice. Additionally, our office will not be admitting any constituents for face-to-face meetings, but will still be working remotely and answering telephone calls. - We have been hearing more reports of price gouging. If you know a business is price gouging, call the Price Gouging hotline at 800-697-1220 or report online at the NYS Attorney General's website.
- Legislation was signed by the Governor that provides sick leave and other benefits to all New York employees who are subject to a mandatory or precautionary quarantine or isolation due to COVID-19.
- New York has prohibited all non-essential employers from having workers come to the office for work. Residents are ordered to stay home as much as possible starting Sunday.
- The 115th Precinct would like us to let you know that "essential businesses," such as supermarkets and pharmacies, are still open for business.
- NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst is providing Coronavirus testing by appointment only. Call 1-844-692-4692 if you are exhibiting symptoms and would like to be tested.
- New York State has a critical need for medical supplies and is willing to buy at a premium. If your business or company has or can make Personal Protective Equipment such as gowns, gloves, or masks, please email covid19supplies@esd.ny.gov.
- The New York City Department of Education wants every student who needs a device for remote learning to have one, even if the student does not have internet access at home. Simply call 718-935-5100 and choose Option 5 on the menu. Someone will help you get a device with internet connection. You can also fill out this form.
- Grab-and-Go breakfast and lunch will be available at the entrance of every school building from 7:30 am-1:30 pm. Any student can pick up breakfast and lunch at any school building until further notice.

- The IRS has announced the federal income tax filing due date is automatically extended from April 15, 2020, to July 15, 2020.
- State collection of student and medical debt owed to the state has been frozen for at least 30 days.
- New York State will waive mortgage payments for the next 90 days if someone is unemployed or underemployed.

- The Taxi and Limousine Commission is recruiting for TLC-licensed drivers to help with important work related to COVID-19, such as delivering food to older adults who can't leave their homes. This work will be paid $15/hour plus reimbursement for gas and tolls. Drivers will be selected on a first-come, first-serve basis.
- The MTA has announced that Rear-Door Boarding will go into effect on local & Select Bus Service. Customers will board and exit all local and Select Bus Service (SBS) buses using the rear doors. Express bus customers will board as normal, but will not be permitted to sit in the first three rows of the bus to ensure customers are a safe social distance from bus operators. ADA customers will still be permitted to board at the front of all local and SBS buses, and board as usual on express buses. Regular fare policy remains in effect wherever on-board payment boxes or SBS off-board ticket machines continue to be accessible.
- The FDNY will not be accepting EMS or firehouse visits at this time.
- All Queens Public Library locations may be closed, but many free digital resources are available online.
- Spectrum is offering free internet for 60 days to college students and households with K-12 students that currently do not have internet. In addition, people behind on their Spectrum bill can get their internet service restored. Call (833) 267-6094 for more details.
- National Grid has temporarily suspended collections-related activities, including service disconnections, to lessen any financial hardship the COVID-19 pandemic may cause.
- New York City Public Schools' Pre-K registration deadline has been extended to Sunday, March 29th. Apply online here.
- New York State ELA and Math exams have been postponed.
- New York State will waive the 7-day waiting period for unemployment benefits for those laid off due to the virus.
- New York State's chief administrative judge has indefinitely suspended eviction proceedings in housing court throughout the state amid the novel coronavirus outbreak.
- The NYC Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings has closed all five of their hearing centers until March 30th, but is still holding hearings remotely.
- The Social Security Administration is still paying out benefits, but be aware of scammers.
- New York City's Department of Finance announced today it will waive penalties for DOF-administered business and excise taxes due this spring.
- Commonpoint Queens is offering free virtual mental health counseling and other services to help Queens residents cope with the coronavirus crisis.
- The Queens Economic Development Corporation is offering grants and no-interest loans to small business help cover costs of the Coronavirus! Apply today!
- The Small Business Administration is also offering the opportunity to apply for disaster loans.
- Primary care providers and practices should call (518) 447-4580 to request a test from the NYSDOH - New York State Health Department.
- NYC parks and playgrounds remain open to provide New Yorkers of all ages with solitary, active recreational opportunities. While in parks and playgrounds, it is critical to practice social distancing among people who do not live in the same household. NYPD and Parks Enforcement Patrol officers are monitoring activities, and NYC Parks is installing new signage to warn adults/parents/guardians and children to maintain social distancing. Over the next week, NYC Parks will evaluate compliance and adopt more stringent rules if needed. Team sports are banned.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the NYSDOH recommends that individuals should follow these guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus:
- Wash your hands regularly,
- cover your cough or sneeze,
- avoid touching your face,
- avoid close contact with others and large public gatherings if possible, and
- stay home if you are sick.
Individuals who are experiencing symptoms and may have traveled to areas of concern or have been in contact with somebody who has traveled to these areas should call ahead to their health care provider before seeking treatment in person. Even if you have not been in contact with an infected person or an affected area, but are experiencing all symptoms of COVID-19, you should call NYSDOH at 1-888-364-3065 to receive guidance on what to do and how-to self-quarantine.
