MADD, Families of Victims, and Transportation Safety Experts Testify at Assembly Hearing to Lower NY’s Legal Blood Alcohol Limit From .08 to .05

Albany, NY – Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon, member of the Assembly Transportation Committee, will attend the Committee’s public hearing on intoxicated and impaired driving. Several people will testify on the topic, including the need to lower the legal blood alcohol concentration (BAC) in New York State from .08 to .05. Simon’s legislation (S776 Liu / A1627 Simon) would make NY the second state in the nation with .05 BAC after Utah; over 100 countries around the world already have the law on the books. The National Transportation Safety Board has long recommended lowering the BAC to .05 percent based on extensive evidence that it is a proven countermeasure that saves lives.
