Giglio Welcomes West Point Cadet Jess Joe Augustine to Assembly Chamber for West Point Day

Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio (R,C-Riverhead) welcomed Cadet Jess Joe Augustine of Mount Sinai to the Assembly Chamber last week in recognition of West Point Day. Each year, the Legislature invites cadets to Albany for a day of recognition honoring their hard work, dedication and commitment to service.

Augustine, a resident of Mount Sinai, was a standout distance runner, earning two New York state titles in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. He is currently in his sophomore year at the U.S. Military Academy, majoring in environmental engineering while preparing for a future branch in cyber operations.

“We honor not just Augustine’s accomplishments, but his character, drive and commitment to something greater than himself,” Giglio said. “His story is one of determination, discipline and service that truly embodies the best of our state and our nation. Coming from a non-military background, he chose a path of challenge and purpose, answering the call to serve through West Point.”

Outside of his academic pursuits, Augustine has completed Air Assault training and is a member of the Black Knights cross country and track teams.

After graduation, Augustine hopes to attend Ranger and Sapper training. He ultimately aspires to return to West Point one day as an instructor.

“Augustine represents the very best of New York,” Giglio added. “We are proud of him and grateful for his service, and I look forward to all that he will accomplish in the years ahead.”
