Giglio Urges Colleagues To ‘Sign & Subpoena’ Health Commissioner
Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio (R,C,I-Riverhead) has joined her colleagues calling fora subpoena to compel Dr. Howard Zucker to testify following the state attorney general's nursing home report. Dr. Zucker oversaw many of the decisions relating to the state’s COVID-19 response and could deliver much needed detail on how the nursing home decisions were made.
“I am pleased to join my colleagues in calling for this subpoena,” Giglio said. “New Yorkers deserve answers to the developing nursing home scandal. Using the correct venue and methods to get answers from Dr. Zucker is our duty as legislators and representatives of the people of New York. Families deserve answers, we deserve answers, and this is how we’re going to get them.”
According to Section 62-A of Legislative Law, if a majority of members on a given committee sign a petition, authority is given for that committee to issue a subpoena for an individual to appear before that committee to answer questions. There are seven members on the Assembly Oversight Committee, five Majority members and two Minority members. Only two Majority members are needed to be able to issue a subpoena to Dr. Zucker and compel him to answer questions following the nursing home report by the Attorney General.
Giglio recently attended a press conference alongside her peers in the assembly and senate with Janice Dean and the family members of nursing home residents to discuss the need for answers, accountability, and the closure they deserve.
