Giglio Supports Inflation Relief & Consumer Assistance Plan

Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio (R,C,I-Riverhead) is joining with her colleagues in the Assembly Minority Conference to fight for a sweeping consumer assistance package. The Inflation Relief & Consumer Assistance Plan (A08481) would suspend state sales taxes on a plethora of goods including taxes on gasoline, food, personal care products and housekeeping supplies. Giglio is adamant the plan be brought to the floor immediately to help combat the inflation in the market.

“It’s imperative that we act now to help assuage the effects of inflation on New York’s taxpayers,” Giglio said. “We’re in unprecedented times and many families are still struggling with the after effects of our COVID-19 response. It’s simply impossible to ignore the severity of these rising costs. Hardworking New Yorkers who play by the rules shouldn’t be forced to bear the brunt of this increase.”

According to the Consumer Price Index from September 2020 until September 2021, the average cost of everyday items climbed 5.4% overall. That’s not including gas prices up 42.1% or energy prices, which are up 24.8%.
